Computación @ El Refugio

One of the great OM ministries that we get to help with is El Refugio (the refuge). El Refugio is in "an impoverished and rejected neighborhood. The house is used by OM to facilitate classes for the children and teenagers in this area. The goal of El Refugio is to help them spend their time doing positive things, avoiding drugs, gangs, and violence. Of course, it is also a desire to share Gods love with them."

Heather has started art and dance classes, and I'm helping with the computer class. Word and PowerPoint have been taught in the past, and we're currently working with Windows Movie Maker. Our next venture will be photo editing with GIMP.

The computers are old, and it's obvious that some students have never worked on a laptop before, but they're all quick to learn and get very excited about using a computer. The variance in students' skills, the language difference, and the high energy of youth make it a challenge; but each class is better than the last, and we're developing some positive relationships with the kids.
