After getting adjusted to the culture, I find myself missing certain things, but then loving others that are new.
Things I miss (in no particular order):
1. peanut butter (the good stuff, ahem, JIF)
2. fabric softener (we like the line-drying method, but our clothes are so stiff!)
3. family and friends
4. Starbucks lattes/Scooter Caramelicious Espresso and Pumpkin Pie Smoothies!
5. wearing high heels
6. hot showers that last more than 3 minutes
7. biking
8. movies (living on a missionary budget makes going to these a little less frequent, but I'm totally going to Harry Potter...and no one is going to stop me!)
9. grocery shopping (another girl in our house does all of it)
10. good toilet paper!
11. cheddar cheese
12. Fall...really missing it right now...along with Fall Fashion!
13. my recruits
14. microwave (we have a stove in the house for heating food)
15. did I mention I really miss peanut butter?
Things I do not miss:
1. TV
2. cell phones/texting
3. bills
Things I like here:
1. public transportation (great bus system!)
2. Dulce de Leche (heavenly caramel spread)
3. you greet everyone with a kiss on the cheek
4. walking
5. trash cans here are so pretty!
6. siesta time (I definitely fit in here)
7. cake for breakfast
8. $1 ice cream cones; big sizes and specialty flavors
9. tea time ("merienda")
10. the little mini spoons for tea time ("cucharitas")
11. the meat man on the corner yells "Hello" to us gringos every time he sees us
12. alfajores
13. Pa Panamericano! (my new favorite song)
14. the kids I teach at El Refugio
15. did I mention Dulce de Leche...?
Below: Dulce de Leche and a trashcan. You just put a bag in there every other day and the trash men come and get it.
